British Sign Language users are invited to Sir John Soane’s Museum for a specially designed after-hours tour led by Deaf guide Edward Richards, to explore the Museum’s latest exhibition Egypt: Influencing British Design 1775 – 2025.

Join BSL guide Edward Richards for this special tour of our new exhibition, delving into the British fascination with all things Egyptian. Explore how the mystery, romance and aesthetic appeal of ancient Egypt has informed 250 years of design, from richly decorated Regency homes and Victorian factories and cemeteries to Art Deco cinemas and twentieth-century houses, shops and offices.  Decorative objects including Wedgwood ceramics, Liberty Fabrics, and an Egyptian-style Singer sewing machine demonstrate the range of ways people have brought Egypt into their homes from Soane’s time to today. The exhibition will include works by Robert Adam, Giovanni Battista Piranesi and Owen Jones.

Lasting around an hour and limited to 12 people, these tours led by Deaf guides are exclusively for D/deaf and hard of hearing visitors.

As there are a limited number of spaces available for this event, please email Markand Patel (mpatel@soane.org.uk) to register your interest or join our wait list for tickets.

Please let us know if you have any additional access needs that may require support. You will receive an email confirmation with further information.
