Design can be found in everything we touch, see and hear.
By Design is a free online talk series hosted by Sir John Soane’s Museum in partnership with Luke Irwin. Inspired by Soane’s own extraordinary collection, internationally renowned designers from across the world of design discuss their practice through a single object.
Co-hosted by Will Gompertz, Director of Arts and Learning at the Barbican, and Alice Rawsthorn, award-winning design critic and author, the series reflects on the power of objects – large or small, mundane or exceptional, aesthetic or utilitarian – to spark new ideas, and act as a spur for different forms of creativity. The series brings to life Sir John Soane's desire to make his Museum an 'academy of the arts', where all forms of design can be celebrated.
Every two weeks, we will release a new video featuring a new designer in the series. Ilse Crawford will be released on 28 June, Phyllida Barlow on 12 July, and Amanda Levete on 26 July.
