Join us for this special event celebrating our 2025 Soane Medallist, Madelon Vriesendorp, at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Madelon Vriesendorp is a Dutch artist and co-founder of the Office of Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), and recipient of this year's Soane Medal, which is awarded annually in recognition of architects, artists, critics and educators who have made a major contribution to their field.

Madelon will give a thought-provoking lecture on the role of the artist in architecture.

"All creative things, all life is playing. And the aim is to be connected with the focus you had as a child." - Madelon Vriesendorp

About Madelon Vriesendorp
Born in 1945 in Holland, Vriesendorp studied at London’s Central St Martin’s before moving to New York in 1972 where she co-founded the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) with Rem Koolhaas and Elia & Zoe Zenghelis. Here she produced paintings in support of the firm's work that were used for books and magazine covers. In recent years Vriesendorp’s contribution to architecture has finally been recognised, and her influence on one of the most famous architecture firms of the 20th century is now understood more clearly.

We are grateful to Hamish and Sophie Forsyth for their generous support of the 2025 Soane Medal and to ARTscapades for supporting the Soane Medal’s 2025 education programme.
