Under Construction: Sketching Structures

Video

Running time: Approx. 80 seconds

This intervention was produced by the Youth Panel at Sir John Soane's Museum in response to the exhibition of works from The Architecture Drawing Prize. The Youth Panel is a group of young people aged 15-24 who help the Museum shape the activities, events and opportunities it offers.

This video focuses on the process of making an architectural drawing. Youth Panel members have selected one work from each of the three prize categories to explore through this medium: hand drawn, digital and hybrid. The drawings are here deconstructed to reveal the layers of the drawing process. This montage film is accompanied by a soundscape designed and created by members of the Youth Panel. Included in the film is the Youth Panel’s collaborative drawing response using mixed media, which illustrates the façade of Sir John Soane's Museum, reinterpreted, adapted and deconstructed for the modern age.

The Youth Panel is a group of young people aged 15–24 who help the Museum shape the activities, events and opportunities we offer young people. Meeting roughly once a fortnight, joining the Youth Panel provides a great opportunity to develop real skills that will be invaluable in a future career, whilst also meeting other young people, having fun and developing new skills and interests. Find out more
