Sir John Soane’s Museum is very proud to present an exclusive range of jewellery developed in collaboration with students and alumni of Royal College of Art’s Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery MA Course. We asked the students to translate their artistic response to Soane’s eccentric house and collection into jewellery for us to sell in our newly opened shop and we have been thrilled with the quality and originality of the range they have designed for us.
AVAILABLE IN BLACK, WHITE OR STERLING SILVER
Phylicia’s Inspiration:
'Some of my favourite things in Sir John Soane’s Museum and its collection are the architectural plans. They are beautiful on their own but I feel that the drawings are interesting because they are the basis of every building. However, they only show a small part of a building, not how high the ceilings will be or what the windows will look like. You can use your own imagination to think of the way the building could look when it is built.
The inspiration for these earrings pieces comes from the architectural plans in Sir John Soane’s collection. The earrings are based on the plan of the Pantheon in Rome. The central ring of the Pantheon in the plan is transformed into a stud earring design.
About Phylicia:
Phylicia has always had a strong interest in architecture but chose to pursue a career in jewellery. After attending a goldsmithing school in the Netherlands, Phylicia completed her studies at the RCA.
Phylicia’s jewellery is always visually effective but often can be better appreciated with an explanation of the inspiration and process.
