Sir John Soane’s Museum is very proud to present an exclusive range of jewellery developed in collaboration with students and alumni of Royal College of Art’s Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery MA Course. We asked the students to translate their artistic response to Soane’s eccentric house and collection into jewellery for us to sell in our newly opened shop and we have been thrilled with the quality and originality of the range they have designed for us.
Molly’s Inspiration: 'The jewellery I have created for the Museum was inspired by the chinks and glints of light that highlight the Museum walls over the course of the day, illuminating fragments of the fragments at different times and in various lighting conditions.
I have also been influenced by the way Sir John Soane paired and mirrored his mismatched collection within the displays around his house.
By taking a piece of this jewellery home, you are taking away a tangible reminder of Soane’s collection of fragments of casts and antiquities to wear yourself, like a memento of your own Grand Tour.
Before creating jewellery for Sir John Soane’s Museum, I designed jewellery inspired by fragments, ornament, light and structures within houses and furniture. Visiting the Museum for the first time was an amazing experience for me because all these themes feature so heavily throughout. It felt a bit like coming home'
Each piece is sterling silver, in a natural finish, with burnished areas to catch the light and highlight the details.
