Phase Two and Phase Three of OUTS
The re-opening of Number 12 is just the beginning of the OUTS project. Later this year, work will commence on Phase II, which will see the restoration of Sir John Soane’s private apartments on the second floor of No.13 Lincoln’s Inn Fields – his Bedchamber, Bathroom, Oratory, Book Passage, Model Room and Eliza Soane’s Morning Room. These have never before been open to the public, having been removed to provide staff accommodation shortly after Soane’s death in 1837. Phase III will see the provision of the Foyle Study Room, in the current New Picture Room (itself a later addition to the Museum), as well as the restoration of Soane’s Ante-Room, Catacombs and the curved link passage behind No.12 that will make a huge difference to accessibility across the Museum. This will complete this exciting project to restore as much as possible the unique arrangement that Soane created in his “permanently magical” house, and we hope that you agree that it will enhance all of our visitors’ enjoyment of this fabulous house museum.
