Soane's approving note of the time taken to lay the timbers for the floor of the Drawing Room (first floor) contrasts with that of the week taken to lay the Parlour (ground) floor, with the work being completed inside one day. His generous gift on Monday the 17th appears to have greatly encouraged productivity!
