About
this website
Theres
a sort of secret community of people who have visited Sir
John Soanes Museum and fallen for it: for its light,
its exemplary architecture, the disorderly order and serious
jokiness of Soanes arrangements, or perhaps for it as
museum, a place of musing, or for the concept of Londons
largest time capsule.
A
professor in Nottingham initiated me into Sir John Soanes
Museum.
Its
the best place in London, he said. Its wonderful.
When I mention the Museum, some peoples faces open up
with comradeship: now we have something to talk about!
You
are invited to write brief pieces about your favourite objects,
discoveries, intuitions and perceptions to include on this website.
Contributions
can be any kind of writing (fiction or otherwise; narrative
or otherwise).

menu on the bottom left side of this page.
This
site comprises both public contributions and my own work undertaken
during the course of a writers residency in the Museum.

Please
note
Sir John Soanes Museum is not responsible for any

page designs. Please send correspondence about the site (suggestions
or problems) by clicking here.
This
website uses decorative elements and approximated colours from
within the Museum. Several of the elements have been digitally
processed for well-intentioned design reasons, but with the
result that they no longer accurately portray Soanes originals.
