The Museum is delighted to welcome Dr Bruce Boucher, who yesterday began his new role as Director of the Soane. Bruce was previously Director of the Fralin Museum of Art, University of Virginia, and during his seven year tenure he supervised a major renovation of the museum and curated a number of exhibitions: From Classic to Romantic: British Art in an Age of Transition (2010), The Adoration of the Magi by Bartolo di Fredi: A Masterpiece Reconstructed (2012), and Cavaliers Collect, celebrating the Fralin's 80th anniversary (2015).

Speaking about his new role, Bruce said: “I am pleased to have begun as Director of Sir John Soane’s Museum. The Museum is a national treasure, with an ever-growing reach and reputation, and it is an honour to be leading the next chapter in its bright future. My immediate focus is the final fundraising push to meet our £4million target as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Catalyst: Endowment grant, and the completion of the Opening Up the Soane restoration project, which will see new spaces accessible to visitors this autumn. Helen Dorey, the Acting Director, and the whole staff have done a remarkable job on all fronts. It is a busy but exciting time to have joined the Soane.”

The staff and volunteers at the Museum wish Bruce a warm welcome, and are looking forward to working with him.
