Holiday Activities

Enjoy either half- or full-day children’s workshops in the school holidays. Develop a skill or explore Soane’s treasures with specialist guidance.

• Workshops are suitable for children aged 7+
• Whole-day workshops run from 10:30am until 3:00pm
• Half-day workshops are repeated morning and afternoon. They run 10:30am-12:30pm or 2:00pm-4:00pm (please specify your preferred time-slot when booking)
• All materials are provided
• Children must bring their own lunch for whole-day workshops

Egyptian Death Masks

The Museum’s amazing sarcophagus of Seti I is missing its mummy. Learn about Seti and create a new Death Mask for him.

Create your own shadow and articulated puppets to tell strange tales in our own puppet theatre.

Tuesday 6 August (whole day) | £20

Create your own alter ego based on the depictions of people within sculptures and paintings at the Museum- write your own life story, make your own props and paint your own backdrop, then put it all together with your own pose for a portrait to take away with you.

Take your wildest dreams to the next stage. Let your imaginations run wild and create your own miniature imaginary room with a variety of materials.

Bridge Building - with Food

Thursday 8 August (am or pm) | £12

Find out about different types of bridges and what makes them strong. Design and build your own model bridges using food in teams. Will you build a suspension bridge using strawberry shoelaces or an arch bridge made of trifle sponges?!

John Soane’s Treasure Trove

Wednesday 14 August (whole day) | £20

Based on the casts and fragments displayed around the Museum, construct and decorate a special box and then fill it with small plaster casts that you have made.

Thursday 15 August (am or pm) | £12

Create a pair of wacky and wonderful specs and hunt down exciting things in Soane’s house as if you were on your own European tour. Don’t forget your passports!

Pop-Up Picture Room

Friday 16 August (whole day) | £20

Inspired by Soane's hidden hinged panels in his innovative Picture Room, make your own fake wall and mythical monster hand puppet that can pop out and back in again to astound your family and friends.

Vanishing London

Wednesday 21 August (am or pm) | £12

Use maps and pictures to find out about how London has changed and how buildings (including Soane’s) have been altered or lost. Make maps, incorporating collage and pop-up features, that explore how parts of London have vanished, been replaced or changed.

Maps, Plans and Space

Thursday 22 August (am or pm) | £12

Through model-making and drawing, learn how to relate 2D plans to a 3D building. Explore positive and negative space by making plasticine models of buildings, pouring in plaster and tearing down the walls, inspired by Turner prize winner Rachel Whiteread.

Explore the Ancient Egyptian secrets of mummification and look at the magnificent sarcophogus of Seti I. Then make your own Canopic Jar fit for a Pharaoh.
