HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN
Enjoy either half- or full-day children's workshops in the school holidays.
Develop a skill or explore Soane's treasures with specialist guidance.
- Workshops are suitable for children aged 7+
- Whole-day workshops run from 10:30am until 3pm
- Half-day workshops run 10:30am-1:00pm or 1:30pm-4:00pm (please specify
when booking)
- All materials are provided
- Children must bring their own lunch for whole-day workshops
- £10 for whole day, £5 for half day, payable in advance

Frieze on the Grand Tour
Wednesday 29 October (whole day)
Create your own frieze from plaster to mimic those that Soane and his
architect friends would have seen on the Grand Tour. This workshop involves
messy materials.
Big Draw Family Activity
Thursday 30 October (whole day)
In this family workshop, draw inspiration from the domestic life of
the Museum to produce pictures and writing. Adults come free!
Greek Myth Shadow Puppets
Friday 2 January (2 x half day)
Investigate the science of light and shadow with splendid shadow puppets.
Be inspired by ancient Greek stories, choose your favourite character,
make your puppet and help us to perform an ancient myth.
Pop-up Book
Wednesday 18 February (whole day)
With its moving planes and surprisingly inventive spaces, Sir John Soane's
Museum is like a pop-up book in house form! Use the tricks of the Museum
to create a pop-up book for your own short story.
Ancient Egyptian Amulets
Thursday 19th February (whole day)
Discover the secrets of ancient Egyptian amulets and the powers the
Egyptians believed they had. Make your own amulet, learn to write a
magic spell in hieroglyphs, and do your own archaeological excavation.
Become a Rock Star
Wednesday 15 April (2 x half day)
Surround yourself with beautiful rocks. Learn how to distinguish the
sedimentary from the metamorphic. Journey straight from No. 14 to the
centre of the Earth powered by chocolate chips. After this workshop
the concrete jungle will become a palaentologist's paradise.
What's the Time, Mr Soane?
Thursday 28th May (whole day)
Abandon the digital age and enter the mists of time. Through Soane's
clocks discover the movement of the planets, the secrets of immortality
and the connection between the Time Lords and his wife's tomb - and
listen out for the chimes.
Capital Idea!
Friday 29 May (whole day)
Learn about the orders of capitals by exploring the Museum then design
and create your own using mixed media. The day will end with the different
capitals being arranged together in the style of Soane's own Pasticcio.
FAMILY DROP-IN DAYS
Free drop-in activities are available on the 3rd Saturday of every
month. Activities will be suitable for all ages and families can take
part together.

YOUNG ARCHITECTS' CLUB (YAC)
Sir John Soane intended his Museum as a place where architects could
visit to learn and be inspired about architecture. The Soane is proud
to offer a new Young Architects' Club for children aged 7 - 13. The
club meets on the 1st Saturday of every month, 10.00am to 1.00pm. Children
will work with Museum staff and architects to learn more about a profession
that combines science, art and design. Activities will include experiments
and practical artistic sessions.

A small annual membership fee of £5 applies
Membership is on an annual basis (September-July)
Please note that YAC is very popular and there is a waiting list for
places.
